WHO WE ARE

Welcome to Calvary Bible Church of Compton, a place deeply rooted in history and faith. Our story begins with the vision and dedication of our founding Pastor, Reverend Charles R. Bereal, who laid the cornerstone of our church on a strong foundation of prayer, faith, and community.  Reverend Charles R. Bereal, the first in his family to embrace Christ at a young age, was ordained as a Baptist Minister at 19. In 1961, at the age of 42, he and his wife, Avis, took the courageous step of founding Calvary Bible Church. It started humbly in the living room of their home, with a unique mission: to be a church that welcomed people from all denominations. Whether you were Four Square, AME, Baptist, COGIC, or Assembly of God, Calvary’s doors were open to you.  In the years that followed, Calvary’s affiliation with the Assemblies of God ministries marked an important chapter in our history. Reverend Charles Bereal led the church until his passing in 2013, continuing to embrace his vision of inclusivity even during the challenges of a global pandemic when many other churches had to close their doors.  As we move forward, we are committed to upholding the foundational principles established by Calvary. We believe that revival will come as we remain steadfast in our faith. Just as pruning is necessary for growth, we trust in God’s plan to place the right people in the right positions at the right time.  In 2023, under the leadership of Pastor Brent Paysinger Sr., we look to the future with unwavering trust in the Lord’s guidance. Our mission is to serve the community of Compton, being a beacon of light and hope through the Holy Spirit.
